Family business celebrates 25 years

Following a 20 per cent expansion in staff over the last twelve months, independent recruitment consultancy The Cummins Mellor Group has celebrated its 25th anniversary with an evening of nostalgia.

The team was joined by former members of staff and friends of the business who enjoyed champagne and shepherd’s pie.

Established in 1990 by Chairman Richard Mellor, a former caterer and general manager of the Dunkenhalgh in Clayton le Moors, and his wife Michelle Mellor, now managing director who also has a catering background, the company now has a staff of over 30 operating under three brands with a combined £3m annual turnover.

Cummins Mellor Recruitment provides recruitment services for a wide range of companies and was the first independent recruitment agency in East Lancashire to be awarded the prestigious Investors in People accreditation.

National chef recruitment business Chefs Jobs UK specialises in recruitment for the hospitality industry while Personnel Checks is a top 30 DBS Umbrella Body providing DBS Checking services to organisations and individuals nationwide.

But a quarter of a century in business isn’t the only thing the popular recruitment consultancy is celebrating. The Cummins Mellor Group has expanded its workforce by 20 per cent in the last 12 months after developing a comprehensive business plan, restructuring its operational departments, and creating an effective succession strategy.

Managing director Michelle Mellor said: “25 years ago today, Richard and I put our corporate slippers on, sat in our back bedroom with a telephone and copy of the Yellow Pages and started to build a business. “Having started from nothing, I never imagined we would achieve over £3m turnover, employ 30 amazing individuals and become sustainable, profitable and debt free. Business is all about your employees, your values and more importantly valuing your talent.”
