Lancashire-born Fagan & Whalley have strengthened their presence in South Wales with the appointment of Leighton Smart as General Manager at their Newport depot.

His arrival marks a significant step in the company’s ongoing growth, reinforcing their commitment to serving customers across Wales while maintaining the high standards it’s known for.

Leighton, who started in his new role earlier in March, brings over two decades of industry experience.

After starting in retail management, he transitioned into logistics in 2006, gaining hands-on experience as an HGV driver before moving through operational and regional management roles.

His wealth of knowledge in planning, customer relationships, and team development makes him a strong asset to Fagan & Whalley’s growing network.

Speaking about his appointment, Leighton said: “The opportunity for Fagan & Whalley in South Wales is unlimited and exciting. I’m looking forward to building strong relationships, supporting our team, and helping the business go from strength to strength. I have an open-door policy and believe in ensuring the team is supported in their day-to-day work while upholding the Fagan & Whalley way.”

A proud family man, rugby fan and keen angler, Leighton is passionate about Newport and its business landscape, recognising the city's potential for growth.
His appointment underlines Fagan & Whalley’s confidence in the region, as the company continues to expand beyond its Lancashire roots, providing logistics solutions to an ever-widening customer base.
