Fagan & Whalley continues support of Pendleside Hospice

It’s no secret that people are at the very heart of our operations here at Fagan & Whalley. This includes not only our valued team members but also the close-knit, vibrant community here in Burnley that has played a significant role in shaping who we are today.

For that reason, as a company, we’ve been longstanding supporters of the local charity Pendleside Hospice. This month we wanted to rewind the clock to look back at how our team has supported the charity over the years…

But firstly, what is Pendleside Hospice?

Pendleside Hospice is a charity that exists to enhance the quality of life for people with life-limiting illnesses by providing specialist palliative care services.

But unlike other organisations, the charity delivers a completely holistic approach to care that addresses the physical, psychological, social and even spiritual needs of individuals, their families and carers.

The charity has become a pillar in the Burnley community, and it goes without saying that over the years, the organisation has touched the lives of numerous Fagan & Whalley team members, too.

How does Fagan & Whalley support Pendleside Hospice?

Our team are no strangers to lacing up hiking boots, donning their swimming goggles, or slipping into some cycling gear – all for a great cause, of course. So let’s take a closer look at how we’ve supported the charity over the years…

March in May & Truck Trek

Just hearing the words ‘March in May’ or ‘Truck Trek’ is enough to make some of our team members wince at the memory of sore legs and aching muscles. But what’s a little leg pain compared to the shared sense of accomplishment and pride we feel at having raised valuable funds for such a great charity?!

March in May

March in May is our initiative to support two local charities, Blackburn Youth Zone and Pendleside Hospice. In May 2021, the team took part in a virtual walk around the UK coastline, starting from our Padiham headquarters before heading to the Fylde Coast and then northbound. The mission was to follow the roads our trucks use daily, visiting all four corners of the nation. We’re proud to have raised an incredible £4,439 for the two charities, too.

Truck Trek

Meanwhile, Truck Trek is an annual event we hold, designed to see our team swim, cycle, stroll, row or sprint the average miles covered by one of our vehicles within a month. This traditionally sees numerous members of our team hike up mountains, head out on long-distance runs and even head out into the water for a cold dip to help reach the goal.

Our team has gotten stuck into Truck Trek for two years now, and last year we managed to raise a fantastic £2,423.50, which was split equally between Pendleside Hospice and Blackburn Youth Zone.

Pendleside Hospice Witch Festival

Our efforts don’t stop at clocking up the miles, though. We also know how to let our hair down – or in this case, put on a witch’s hat. Yes, you heard that right. Last September, several members of the Fagan & Whalley team got together to volunteer at the Pendleside Witch Festival.

Here, we proudly donated one of our trucks to be used as a stage at the event – which saw over 1,871 people attend dressed as witches to raise funds for the charity and celebrate this spooky time of year!

Corporate Challenge

Finally, we’re also proud to have taken part in several of Pendleside Hospice’s annual Corporate Challenges. This fundraising event sees more than 60 businesses from across Burnley and Pendle take part in numerous exciting fundraising challenges between the months of June and September each year.

Chris Corrigan, our brand and marketing executive, said: “Taking part in the Corporate Challenge is always an annual highlight for us at Fagan & Whalley. Our team thrives on coming together, challenging ourselves, and having a little fun at the same time – all while championing an incredibly worthwhile cause.

“People are at the very heart of what we do here at Fagan & Whalley, whether that’s championing our internal people, valuing the clients we work with, or supporting the community that has shaped us over the years.

“We’re excited to continue supporting the mission of Pendleside Hospice, and are already looking forward to Corporate Challenge 2024! Bring it on!”
