Nelson and Colne College will open its doors to a world of opportunities in cutting edge engineering industries at a special apprenticeship event in January.

The Engineering Apprenticeship Event from 5pm until 7pm on Wednesday 16 January is the perfect opportunity to find out all there is to know about Apprenticeships, volunteering and work placement opportunities.

College leavers, school leavers, parents, job seekers and general enquirers visiting the event on the night will have the chance to speak to employers and current Engineering Apprentices and apply for live Apprenticeship vacancies with local companies.

There will also be workshops to take part in to develop employability and interview skills, as well as information on how you can progress onto a Higher Education qualification with Nelson and Colne College or Accrington and Rossendale College.

January starts are available for the BEng top-up Honours Degree, one of the most industry-relevant Engineering qualifications of its kind. This programme is aimed at those who want to improve their Foundation Degree or HND and move into a role in Engineering with more responsibility and better prospects, along with a higher earning potential.

Employers that have already confirmed their attendance include: acdc Fort Vale Chubb Systems Fives Landis G Parker Aero Tooling Solutions Ministry of Defence Royal Air Force Specialist Anodising Company (SACO) Bright Engineering Protec Fire Detection Ltd BCW Manufacturing Group NCC+ Careers Nelson and Colne College Vocational Team (16-18 study) Nelson and Colne College Apprenticeship Team Nelson and Colne College University Centre Accrington and Rossendale College – Construction and Motor Engineering Director of apprenticeships and training at Nelson and Colne College Barbara Livesey said: “The promotion of high quality Apprenticeships makes our Engineering Apprenticeship Event a great way to start the new year.

“We have a good number of employers already down to exhibit and visitors will have the chance to network with them, see what opportunities are out there and develop important and valuable employability skills.

“This is the perfect event for those who are seriously looking at a career in Engineering or who are looking to develop their existing skills to a higher level, and we look forward to welcoming visitors into College on the night.”

Nelson and Colne College is the number one college in the country for overall Apprenticeship achievement, at all ages and levels.

Thomas Marchant, 19, of Pendle Engineering, collected Nelson and Colne College’s Gold Award for Work Based Learning at its Star Awards 2018, for the progress he has made and his role as Apprentice Representative at the company.

The former St Christopher’s CE High School student said: “I like to be practical and the Apprenticeship route was definitely right for me. The support I have had from the company and the college has been great – they are not content for passes, they push you that bit harder for distinctions because they see that you can achieve it.”

Those wishing to attend the event can keep up to date with which employers have signed up to the event by visiting Nelson and Colne College’s Apprenticeship Facebook page - @Nelson and Colne College Apprenticeships and Training - or on Twitter at @nccapprentice.

Companies interested in exhibiting at the event still have the time to register their names and can do so by emailing [email protected] or calling Nelson and Colne College’s Marketing Coordinator for Apprenticeships Gabriella Shaw on 01282 440289.
