Downtown announces growth plans on back of record year

Downtown in Business is planning to open in two new locations after reaching £1m in revenue for the first time.

Currently operating in Liverpool, Lancashire, Manchester, Leeds, and Birmingham, Downtown will soon expand into Cheshire and Glasgow.

The influential business organisation has also appointed Robyn Jan Jaarsveldt as social media and communications brand manager, Matt Barnsley as head of business support in Birmingham, Sharen de Costa to the post of head of finance, Teleri Davies to the role of head of events (Liverpool), and Anthony Camm, as head of business support in Lancashire.

The Commonwealth Games Gold Medallist turned entrepreneur Diane Modahl will take up her position as the chair of Downtown Manchester in January.

Chief executive of the group Frank McKenna said: “It has been a really positive twelve months for Downtown, as we have expanded our team, increased sales, and made progress in our preparation for launching in two new locations in 2018.

“With events such as the Transport Summit in the Summer, over 200 events, including eight gala awards dinners across the country, and contributions from key decision-makers, and leading entrepreneurs from across the UK, Downtown in Business has demonstrated its ability to influence, inform, and connect. “We also secured a London base this year, and we now have ambitions to take the brand into two new regions. We will be launching in Warrington & Cheshire to complete our Northwest reach in the New Year; and we will be establishing Downtown Glasgow in Business.”
