A free morning event on 12 November will show business leaders how to get genuine value from AI and how to manage the data protection and employment risks that come with it.
Marketing agency Door4 and law firm Forbes Solicitors are joining forces to host a free event for business leaders on how to use artificial intelligence safely and profitably.
AI in business: protect, innovate & grow takes place on Thursday 12 November at Brockholes Nature Reserve. The morning brings together practical advice on putting AI to work with expert guidance on the legal risks that come with it.
The event comes as more employees adopt AI tools ahead of their employers. A recent Deloitte survey of 25,000 UK workers found that 31 per cent of those using generative AI do so without their employer knowing, and around half have had no formal training on using it safely.
Leon Calverley, founder and innovation director at Door4, will open the morning with a session on getting real value from AI at work. He'll share a four step approach to moving from occasional use of chat tools to proper systems that run on a business's own data, with a person checking the output.
Forbes Solicitors will then lead sessions on the legal side. Gemma Duxbury, partner in the commercial team, will cover how data protection law applies across the AI lifecycle, including transparency, governance and managing third party providers. Jonathan Holden, partner and head of employment, will look at the growing use of AI in recruitment and performance management, and the bias and discrimination risks that are now appearing in employment tribunal claims. Daniel Fletcher, senior associate in commercial, will explore the intellectual property issues businesses need to consider when using AI.
Leon said: "Most businesses are using AI in some form now, but very few are making money from it. Usually that's because it's been bolted onto old ways of working. Businesses getting results have redesigned the work around it, and built in human checks from the start. That's what makes AI both useful and safe."
Emma Swan, partner and commercial divisional lead at Forbes Solicitors, said: “AI is quickly becoming part of everyday business. For many organisations, the challenge is understanding how to use it effectively while keeping pace with responsibilities around data, governance and people. This event is about helping business leaders see AI as more than a technology tool. It's an opportunity to drive growth, improve efficiency and create better outcomes, with the confidence that the right safeguards are in place”
The event is aimed at business owners, CEOs, managing directors and senior marketing and HR leaders. Places are free but limited.
