Dinosaurs set to roar into Burnley this summer

Burnley is gearing up for a ‘roarsome’ event as the town gets ready to host a dinosaur trail to coincide with the summer holidays.

Organised in a partnership between Burnley Leisure, Charter Walk, Burnley Council and Burnley Business Improvement District (BID), the trail will feature nine different dinosaurs inside a number of town centre businesses which participants will need to discover.

Sites include the Bus Station, Burnley Market, Financial Affairs, Ernest Jones, Primark and Skipton Building Society.

Those taking part in the trail will need to collect an entry form at the Burnley Market office before dropping it back there once they’ve found all of the prehistoric creatures.

The first 500 people to spot all of the dinosaurs will win a dinosaur story book, while all subsequent entrants will be placed into a prize draw for the chance to win £150 of Love2Shop vouchers.

Burnley Leisure will get everything underway with a launch event featuring interactive dinosaurs on Saturday 23rd July from 11am-4pm, and the trail is then set to be in place until Saturday 3rd September.

People will be able to get involved on every day of the week except Sundays.

Burnley BID project manager Andrew Dean is looking forward to the arrival of the dinosaurs and hopes families come to enjoy the trail as well as taking advantage of the great shops and hospitality businesses in the town centre.

“The trail promises to provide fun for all the family this summer and offers a cost-effective way to keep children entertained. There are also opportunities to win prizes too!

“So why not head into the town centre, see if you can find all of the creatures and then enjoy a spot of shopping and some refreshments to make a day of it? Our fantastic businesses would love to see you this summer and there are so many great places just waiting to be discovered.”

Janet Roundell, Burnley leisure activities manager, commented: “Burnley Leisure is so excited to be involved in the dinosaur trails this summer. Through funding secured from the Holiday Activities and food initiative we have been able to adopt four awesome dinosaurs that came to Burnley last month. 

“We have been running a competition to name the dinosaurs with the local children and we have named our baby Pachycephalosaurus Pip, our infant Triceratops Topsy, our cheeky teenage Velociraptor Vinnie and the king of dinosaurs, the T rex, Trevor.

“All four of our Dino family will be in town on 23rd July waiting to meet you all and entertain you with a little show they have been working on.  Come along to the Dino shop from 11 am and meet Burnley’s new Jurassic family and get all the info on where else you can see them over the summer.”
