Blackburn based Training for Counsellors have announced the start date of their new course, Using Relational Ethics to Navigate Suicide Risk in Counselling and Psychotherapy.

Working with clients at risk of suicide is a sensitive and challenging aspect of counselling and psychotherapy.

Research has noted, recently, that the best predictor of suicidal risk a comprehensive, person-centred assessment (www.bacp.co.uk). This demands professional expertise, personal sensitivity and an ethical framework to support both client safety and therapeutic integrity.

Taking place on Saturday 21st June 2025, this important, informative and up-to-date CPD event will be Led by Andrew Reeves.

The session will explore the intricacies and complexities of suicide risk when it emerges in the therapeutic space, offering a relational ethics framework to sit alongside professional ethics and how to use both to guide decision-making and engagement with clients.

Professor Andrew Reeves is a leading voice on working with suicidal risk in counselling and psychotherapy.

He brings almost four decades of experience across mental health crisis services, child protection, adult safeguarding, education, and private practice.

He is Professor in Counselling Professions and Mental Health at the University of Chester, a BACP Senior Accredited Counsellor/Psychotherapist, a Senior Accredited Coach and Coach Supervisor, and a Registered Social Worker.

Andrew’s wealth of knowledge will provide invaluable insights to all attendees. His engaging, interactive approach ensures that participants not only absorb essential theory but also gain practical strategies to take back to their practice.

Training for Counsellors offer a wide range of current and relevant CPD opportunities designed to support practitioners in developing confidence, understanding, and the necessary skills to navigate their practice.

Owner Samantha Crapnell said: “Each year, we aim to invite a titan in the profession to share their insights, in person. We are thrilled that Andrew accepted our request. The full-day CPD event will be an enriching experience combining formal content delivery, group discussions, and experiential exercises, finishing in a panel discussion where challenges can be explored in greater depth."

This CPD session offers counsellors, psychotherapists and clinical supervisors, either qualified or currently in training, a supportive and empowering environment to refine their approach and develop a deeper understanding of the ethical and relational considerations involved.
