Cycling from London to Paris for Transaid’s 25th anniversary

Four members of the Fagan & Whalley team – Sam, Laura, Stephen and Graham Fagan – completed Transaid’s 25th Anniversary European Cycle Challenge. And we couldn’t be prouder of them!

Over three days, our team members covered the 187-mile journey from London to Paris in celebration of Transaid’s mission. They were joined by over 40 fellow riders from the transport and logistics industry.

Let’s take a look at how they got on…

The challenge: to cycle from London to Paris

Day 1

The journey began at Greenwich Observatory in London – and after weaving their way out of the capital, the group made their way to the picturesque High Weald near Kent – an area recognised for its outstanding natural beauty. Here, the team gradually made their way down towards the South Coast and Newhaven, before eventually hopping on a ferry over to the continent!

Day 2

Day 2 was a much more relaxing route, with just 3 miles on the road before our team found one of France’s many dedicated cycling paths. This meant lots of traffic-free tarmac and a relatively flat ride – as well as an abundance of gentle rolling hills. After 70 miles, the team arrived at the picturesque and cultural town of Beauvais for the night.

Day 3

The final leg of the journey took our team through even more of France’s picturesque farmlands and quaint towns before eventually leading them to the outskirts of Paris! Here, they rode alongside the iconic River Seine before finally arriving at their final destination: the Eiffel Tower. Enjoying a very well-deserved celebratory meal, the group then spent the night in Paris and rested their (presumably very sore) legs!

Fundraising efforts

Sam Fagan, commercial managing director at Fagan & Whalley, said: “As always, it’s been a pleasure supporting the mission of Transaid – whose values are based around increasing road safety and enhancing driver training are closely aligned with our own.

“We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who donated to our Just Giving Fundraising page. Your generosity enabled us to contribute to Transaid’s fundraising efforts and means a great deal to all of us. We didn’t just cycle (which, trust us, was difficult enough as it was), but we made a difference – and ultimately, we couldn’t have done it without your support. Finally, a huge thank you to Transaid and to all of those involved in organising the event – it was a pleasure to be a part of.”
