Eight fitness enthusiasts from Pendle are to embark upon an epic challenge to raise money for a local charity close to their hearts.

The members of CrossFit Pendle will be taking part in BK’s Box to Box Challenge, travelling across Europe over six days to complete 21 CrossFit ‘benchmark’ workouts at 15 gyms in nine countries.

The challenge is to raise funds for BK’s Heroes; a charity set up by Ben King, from Reedley, after he was diagnosed with kidney disease and an inoperable brain tumour.

“Ben’s brother Dan is a popular member at the gym, and, as a community, we wanted to do something to raise lots of money for the charity” said Mike Rawson, owner at CrossFit Pendle.

“With a common interest in CrossFit, eight of us have decided to take part in a challenge which will be incredibly gruelling, but also a fantastic way to raise money and awareness.”

The team will travel to CrossFit boxes (gyms), in England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, Denmark, Sweden, Germany and Holland. The workouts will incorporate a number of CrossFit movements including pull ups, kettle bell swings, sit ups, overhead squats and running to name a few.

James Corner, managing director of ECS and J-Tech Aircon Services Ltd, and member and sponsor of BK’s Box to Box Challenge said: “We can’t wait to begin the challenge at the end of June; we’re training hard at CrossFit Pendle as we want people to really get on board and help us to reach our £5,000 target for such a great charity.”

Other sponsors of the challenge include CrossFit Pendle, City Glass MCR and We Love Creative. Members of the challenge are Mike Rawson, James Corner, Warren Cahill, Lee Cunningham, Nick Wiarczek, Dan King, Christian Foster and Jonathan Doney.

CrossFit Pendle will be holding a fundraising event at its site on the Lomeshaye Industrial Estate on 2 April, inviting its members to take part in a fun competition; all money raised will go towards BK’s Heroes.

And as the team return exhausted from their epic challenge, they will be welcomed with a big celebration at CrossFit Pendle. A Just Giving page has been set up for the challenge; if you’d like to make a donation please head to the page https://crowdfunding.justgiving.com/BKsBoxtoBoxChallenge/.
