A quirky hairstylist from Nelson is certainly making waves in the industry, as she uses her colourful knowledge to showcase her creative talent.
Rachel Mason acquired her salon on Leeds Road in Nelson from her mother, Aileen, who previously owned the salon for 15 years. While retaining the current client base, Rachel has grown the business and its reputation, attracting a new audience with her creative colouring techniques.
“I’ve grown up in the hairdressing industry; working in my mum’s shop since the age of 12 and then working as an apprentice for her,” said Rachel.“My love for hairdressing developed, and I’ve worked with some top name brands throughout my career. I absolutely love to colour and be creative.
“Since taking over the salon, I’ve been working hard to introduce people to colouring and styles they may not have considered. While keeping with the traditional styles, I also offer colour creations for clients.”Rachel spends her time in the salon transforming clients using an array of bright colours; a slightly different approach to the one her mum had in previous years.
After studying a hairdressing and beauty NVQ for three years with Nelson and Colne College, Rachel has since worked with some top name brands up and down the country, including, Fudge, Joico and St Tropez. She added: “Hairdressing has been in my family for years, and both my mum and I are passionate about creating the very best style we can for a client. “Whether this is a cut and blowdry, or a full colour transformation; every client’s needs are recognised. There’s plenty going on at the salon and I have lots of new ideas for the future.”
