North-West Construction and Development experts Create Group, Blackpool are supporting the charity Time to Change's 'Time to Talk' Day on the 6th February 2020, as part of their commitment to promoting mental health awareness within the company.

Every working day, two construction workers take their own life.By their involvement, Create is demonstrating a commitment to tackle mental health issues and is striving to develop a working culture where employees are encouraged to talk about their issues and speak out if they are struggling. The aim is to break taboos and help to end the isolation, shame and worthlessness that people can feel when experiencing a mental health problem.

The Company has already demonstrated its commitment to supporting staff who are experiencing problems such as depression, anxiety or stress, with the introduction of 10 Mental Health Champions across the business. Create's team underwent specialist training with Mental Health England at the Group’s head office during Mental Health Awareness Week last year. The initiative resulted in the trained Mental Health Champions being available to offer support to staff who may require it, both on site and at head offices.

GIll Mathison, director at Create commented: "Create has made a commitment to change how all staff think and act about mental health at every level of our organisation, ensuring that no one is made to feel isolated or alone for having a mental health problem."

One in four people will experience a mental health problem and 9 in 10 say they have faced negative treatment from others as a result. By choosing to be open about this issue, the company has become part of the movement that’s changing the conversation around mental health.

Dave Jones, SHEQ manager at Create commented: "We are making positive steps to develop an open and caring culture in our company, where members of staff feel confident that they can speak out about their mental health issues in order that we can give them the support they need without any stigma."
