Council launches sustainable travel initiatives

Lancashire County Council has grants available for businesses looking to encourage their employees to leave the car at home.

LCC cycleThe funding is for companies in proximity to the key congestion corridor into Lancaster from Junction 33 of the M6 into the city centre or in Preston from the junction of the M65 up the A6 into the city's centre.

The grants allow for a range of measures, such as the installation of showers and cycle storage, subsidised bus passes and pool bikes.

Lancashire County Council's Amy Coulson said: "Congestion has increased significantly over the past twenty years and with it has come an increase in pollution and growing concerns about the contribution that transport makes to climate change.

"Businesses and organisations are now being encouraged to consider their own impact on climate change and a Travel Plan can be a very positive way for a company to improve its environmental performance. "

For any businesses which fall outside the key corridors the council's sustainable travel team offers free support in delivering initiatives such as activities based around car share, walking, cycling and using public transport. The council has produced a range of videos which can be viewed here.
