Blackburn-based refrigeration van specialist Coolkit marked its 20th anniversary in style by reclaiming the ‘Refrigerated Panel Van of the Year’ title at the Temperature Controlled Storage and Distribution Awards.
It’s the fifth time CoolKit has secured the prestigious trophy, having previously won in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2023.
The 2025 win underlines the Lancashire manufacturer’s reputation as the UK leader in temperature‑controlled transport solutions.
Coolkit is the UK's largest provider of temperature controlled and refridgerated light commercial vehicles.
Founded in 2005 with just four employees supplying insulation kits for vans, CoolKit has since grown into a national market leader employing more than 140 people at its state‑of‑the‑art Blackburn facilities.
Over the past year alone, the company has invested over £2m in local operations, creating jobs, expanding production and strengthening its role in the regional economy.
The specialist has deep roots in East Lancashire, starting in Padiham, moving to Burnley and now operating from a 100,00 sq ft site in Blackburn capable of handling up to 300 vans on site.
Output reached record levels of more than 160 converted vans and insulated box bodies in a single month – the highest in the company’s history.
CoolKit’s innovative work also supports sustainability goals, currently being the only converter within the industry with ISO14001 accreditation.
With lightweight insulation, recycled materials and advanced refrigeration technologies helping fleet operators cut emissions, CoolKit is leading the way in sustainable solutions.
Rupert Gatty, CoolKit’s founder and chief executive officer, said: “Reaching our 20-year anniversary is a proud moment for the whole team, so to do it with this award is extra special.
“CoolKit has always been rooted in East Lancashire, and our growth is a testament to the skills, hard work and innovation of people in this region.
"As we look ahead, we’re excited to continue investing locally, creating opportunities, and building on our reputation as a centre of excellence in refrigerated transport.”
CoolKit’s journey from a small Burnley start-up to a market leader is a clear example of how Lancashire businesses can grow to have national impact while continuing to invest in their communities.
