Conlon constructs Manchester's Christmas markets

Manchester City Council called on Conlon Construction to build this year's iconic Christmas markets.

The Preston-based contractor was appointed to build the hundreds of wooden chalets and attractions that make up the city centre winter wonderland.

Manchester Christmas Markets, now in its 19th year, draws in millions of visitors each December. The attraction has been voted the best of its kind in the UK and is one of the most popular in Europe.

Once the festive season is over, Conlon will also be tasked with the removal of the stalls and related infrastructure

Sean Conlon of Conlon Construction said: “Being right on our doorstep, we’ve seen the Manchester Christmas Markets grow into the spectacular fare that it is today and we’re proud to be involved in bringing the festivities to life.

"Christmas in Manchester supports thousands of seasonal jobs and adds millions of pounds to the local economy, and we’re proud to be playing a part in this."

Sean described how working on a major project in a live city environment while keeping to a tight schedule presented its own challenges. He said: "We’ve completed numerous other markets projects in the past, including Preston Markets and Altrincham Markets, and we were able to bring this same knowledge and experience, along with months of planning and co-ordination, to ensure a successful delivery.”
