Cleaning firm backs 4th base rounders team

A local cleaning business has added sponsorship to its agenda, proudly play a role in supporting a ladies rounders league.

Optimus Commercial Services, based in Nelson, was approached by Janet Roundell, founder of the league, about the possibility of sponsoring a team. The league launched in 2013 and now has well over 400 women across Burnley and Pendle taking part in an exciting and fun sport, designed to help ladies in the community keep fit and active.

The project has grown rapidly over the last two years, with national recognition from Rounders England and also the ‘This Girl Can’ campaign supported by Sport England. This recognises women across the UK who are keen to maintain their fitness regardless of their ability or how they look. Organisers of the league also hold a weekly raffle; funds are donated to various charities including Pendleside Hospice and Pancreatic Cancer UK.

Jayne Brotherton, operations director and founder of Optimus Commercial Services said: “We were delighted to be asked to sponsor 4th base rounders’ team; the league has provided a great opportunity for women to keep fit, but also play sport on a more competitive level.”

“We’ve provided shirts and hoodies for the ladies to play in and will be cheering them on and even taking part in a few of their games over the summer! We’re always looking to get involved in events in and around our local community so we were more than happy to sponsor the team.”

4th base is a team made up of ladies in the local area, who wanted to engage in physical exercise and play a sport which they loved at school. The team enjoyed success in the first winter league finishing in 4th place, and after recruiting new members for the 2015 summer league, they’re looking forward to competing. “We were thrilled when Optimus Commercial Services decided to sponsor us; this is testament to our success and growth as a team. We absolutely love the new kits they have provided us with, and we can’t thank them enough,” said Lynne Sibbald, team captain of 4th base.
