Cable backs Lancashire Business View’s ‘invaluable’ growth programme

Business Secretary Vince Cable has thrown his weight behind Lancashire Business View’s £4m Enterprise Programme and its mission to support 600 businesses and create 1,000 new jobs.

Lancashire Business View magazine, with its partners Blackburn with Darwen Council and Regenerate Pennine Lancashire, secured the investment through the Regional Growth Fund.

With private sector leverage, the project will invest £13m into growing young businesses in the county between 2013 and 2015. Details on the scheme will be announced later this year.

On a fact-finding visit to the county, Vince Cable said the initiative would be carrying out an important role “you can’t do from Whitehall.

"I very much back this initiative – I’m delighted. It is really good when regional news organisations work with local business.

“There are good examples where organisations have taken money from the Regional Growth Fund to distribute - you can't do that from Whitehall.

"The networks that Lancashire Business View has are absolutely invaluable in this." Businesses will be able to register their interest in the investment programme through Lancashire Business View’s online LBVHub later this year.
