Businesses to benefit from volunteering workshop

Businesses across the region are being invited to attend a free workshop which will examine the benefits of supporting employees through sponsored volunteering programmes.

Employer Sponsored Volunteering: Realising the Potential is being held by the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) on May 23 at the University’s Preston campus.

The workshop aims to bring together businesses to explore the benefits and issues relating to supporting staff to participate in volunteering positions during working hours.

Attendees will also hear from speakers including Lynn Saggerson, chief executive officer of Blackpool, Wyre and Fylde College’s Volunteer Centre, Russell Hogarth, Community Ambassador at UCLan, and Stephen Sloss, chief executive officer of Salvere Social Enterprise CIC.

The event is part of a series of 12 regional workshops across the country organised in partnership with the Cabinet Office, the University of Hull, the University of Sheffield, Business in the Community and the National Council for Voluntary Organisations.

In 2015, the government proposed plans for workers to have the right to three days of paid volunteering leave, as part of an initiative to create more motivated workforces and increase community engagement.
