#AmazingAccrington hosted a special business leaders meeting at the Mercure Dunkenhalgh Hotel and Spa on Thursday morning, bringing together key figures from across the borough for a positive and forward-thinking event.

Led by #AmazingAccrington Chair and managing director of Scott Dawson Advertising, Murray Dawson, the energetic and proactive meeting took place in the Pendle Suite and welcomed a wide range of local business leaders.

Murray also made a special announcement that #AmazingAccrington have now successfully secured over £2.1m in grant funding through their dedicated bid writer, funding that has heavily supported a multitude of organisations across the borough, from Clayton Amateur Boxing Club through to Accrington Stanley.

Guests were treated to a delicious breakfast prepared by Head Chef Sean Noonan, including a popular omelette-making station that set the tone for a vibrant morning.

Following the breakfast, attendees heard from Sean and Dunkenhalgh General Manager Nick Parry, who shared insights into the hospitality industry and the strength of the local visitor economy.

Nick spoke about his experiences managing the hotel, while Sean highlighted the significant steps taken to position the Dunkenhalgh as a centre of culinary excellence within the Mercure group.

Hyndburn Borough Council’s Head of Policy and Organisational Development, Kirsten Burnett, and Economic Development Manager Salma Chaudhry, then provided an update on major regeneration and development projects across the area.

These included the refurbishment of the Grade II listed Accrington Market building, the introduction of co-working and flexible office space at Burtons Chambers managed by 2-Work, and progress on the new heritage space, Accrington DOME, in Market Chambers. She also shared updates on the Town Centre Investment Plan, the Neighbourhood Board and the borough’s expression of interest for UK Town of Culture 2028.

Warren Eastham, Accrington Stanley CEO reflected on a decade of progress and investment under owner Andy Holt.

His presentation highlighted the club’s transformation, including major infrastructure developments, strong community engagement and ambitious plans for the future.

The final speaker, Heath Groves, shared his journey from tech entrepreneur to published novelist.

He spoke about his growing ‘Series of Silence’ saga, having recently released the third instalment, The Silence We Share, on Kindle. Attendees were gifted a copy of his first book, The Silence We Hide, and had the opportunity to learn more about the series, alongside a themed Moorside Craft Gin available on the day.

The treats kept coming following the event, with those attending getting to enjoy an early morning ice cream from Mrs Dowsons.

Nick Parry said: “Today we have been able to update business leaders about our journey here at the Dunkenhalgh Hotel and Spa.

"One of the biggest changes we have had is in the food, so we are really supporting Accrington and the local community by going to local suppliers for all of our food on our new Taste of Lancashire menu.”

Kirsten Burnett said: “It’s incredibly important that we keep our business leaders informed and engaged with the major projects shaping the future of Hyndburn. These updates ensure transparency, build confidence and encourage collaboration as we continue to invest in the borough.”

Warren Eastham said: “Accrington Stanley plays a vital role in the identity and pride of the borough. It’s important that we share the success story of the club and the positive impact it continues to have both on and off the pitch.”

Heath Groves said: “The Series of Silence has been incredibly well received, so it was great to share my journey with such an engaged and supportive group of business leaders. Events like this provide a brilliant platform to connect creativity and enterprise.”

Murray Dawson said: “We had some fantastic speakers, a lovely venue and really proactive discussions throughout the morning. It’s exactly the kind of event that helps drive momentum, strengthen relationships and showcase the ambition we have for Accrington.”
