Bus firm John Fishwick and Sons enters administration

Lindsey Cooper and Jeremy Woodside of RSM Restructuring Advisory have been appointed as administrators to Leyland-based bus operator and holiday coach tour provider John Fishwick and Sons Limited.

Lindsey Cooper, RSM partner and one of the administrators said: ‘There have been significant changes within the bus operator sector over recent years which have made it difficult for small companies to operate profitably. This has resulted in the company facing significant cash flow issues and has left the directors with little alternative but to appoint administrators. "Despite significant efforts we have been unable to find a buyer for the business and the business will cease trading with effect from today. It is hoped that many of the employees will find alternative employment with other bus operators in the area. Discussions have been held with the local authority to ensure that disruptions to public services are minimised.

Councillor Phil Smith, South Ribble Borough Council’s cabinet member with responsibility for regeneration and leisure, said the council had been in touch with Fishwick’s to offer its assistance, and is talking to other organisations like Jobcentre Plus and Lancashire County Council about a co-ordinated offer of help to those affected.

He said: “Most of the talk recently has been about job creation and investment in South Ribble, so I was very sad to hear about the closure of such a local institution. It will no doubt have come as a blow to the employees and their families, as well as the passengers who have used the green buses for so many years.

“It’s still early days, and there are discussions which have yet to take place, but we have already been in touch with Fishwick’s to let them know that we will help in whatever way we can.”
