A press release by Independent Street

We are delighted to announce the launch of The Burnley Artisan Market on Saturday September 4th and the first Saturday of each month following.

This event is brought to you as a collaboration between Burnley Business Improvement District, Burnley Council and Independent Street who champion local independent businesses and produce.

We will be showcasing 45 small independent businesses and many award winning artisan traders for our launch on St James’s Street. There will be local pie producers, freshly baked breads from micro bakeries, street food, epic cakes, fresh roasted coffee, tasty treats, local gin sellers, awesome ice cream, deli, handcrafted jewellery, arts, craft, candles, cheeses, wax melts and more. There will be something for everyone!

Independent Street champions independent businesses and produce. It aims to provide a platform for small businesses to showcase to their local community.

Lisa Cowley from Independent Street says: “We are delighted to have been asked to deliver a fantastic community event for Burnley town centre showcasing many local Lancashire businesses. We cannot wait to deliver a specialist monthly event with many award winning producers of unique goods set to inspire.

“Pop along and join us, it is a superb opportunity to find out the origins of your food, meet our makers and bakers, feast your eyes upon some goodies and fill those shopping bags whilst indulging in some good conversations with our team and stall holders. There is something for the whole family and best of all, it’s free entry.”

Burnley Business Improvement District Project Manager Andrew Dean said: “We’re excited to play a part in bringing these monthly events to the town to help showcase local independent businesses and their produce.

“I would urge anyone planning on attending to also take some time to visit Burnley’s shops and hospitality venues too as the town centre has so much to offer for people of all ages.”

Leader of Burnley Borough Council, Councillor Afrasiab Anwar, said: “Officers have worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make this happen. The artisan markets will attract shoppers from further afield, provide a different offer and exciting shopping experience and are part of our wider plans for a vibrant town centre. If the pilot is successful we hope to make this a regular offer for Burnley shoppers.”

Councillor Cosima Towneley said: "Having worked with Lisa Cowley for some years it is a pleasure to, at long last, bring Independent Street artisan markets to Burnley. A monthly market of this calibre, which embraces the talents of local traders and brings in a variety of quality enterprises to fire the imagination, will add colour and vibrancy to our town centre."

We are very excited to launch in Burnley and hope you can join us on Saturday 4th September on St James’s Street, adjacent to The Charter Walk Shopping Centre. The event will run from 10am-4pm.

If you are a small business and wish to get involved please contact the team. We are also keen to work with local community groups and musicians. Please email [email protected] for more information.
