Burnley College student and rising wrestling star Danoush Jowkar has taken a significant step toward his Olympic dreams by traveling to India for an elite training camp.

The 18-year-old from Sowerby Bridge, a former student of Calder High School, is preparing to represent Team GB in the U20 category at the European Championship - a remarkable achievement.

Currently ranked fifth in the world in his age and weight class, Danoush is proving himself to be a force to be reckoned with on the global stage.

Danoush’s success is underpinned by his time at Burnley College, where he studied Advanced Level Sport, Fitness, and Personal Training as part of the college's prestigious Elite Athlete Programme.

This programme is specifically designed to support talented young athletes by providing them with the flexibility, resources and expert guidance needed to excel in both their sporting and academic pursuits.

Burnley College’s commitment to nurturing talent has been instrumental in helping Danoush balance his rigorous training schedule with his studies, ensuring he is prepared for success both on and off the mat.

Danoush, who is taking a gap year to focus on his wrestling career, has his sights firmly set on competing at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

His ultimate goal is to turn professional, and this training camp in India is a crucial step in his journey.

The camp offers him the chance to train alongside some of the world’s best athletes, gaining invaluable experience and honing his skills for the challenges ahead.

Matt Aherne, a key figure in Danoush’s development at Burnley College, said: "We are very proud of Danoush's accomplishments and progress in wrestling.

“This training camp is a fantastic opportunity for him to gain further experience competing and training with other high-level athletes.

“We are excited to see where his wrestling career will take him as his sights are set on competing at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games."

Burnley College’s unique approach to education and sports development has been instrumental in Danoush’s success.

The college offers tailored programmes that allow students to pursue their passions while maintaining academic excellence.

By fostering an environment that values both personal and professional growth, Burnley College is setting a new standard for how educational institutions can support young athletes.

For Danoush, the journey to India is a stepping stone toward his dreams of Olympic glory and a professional wrestling career.

His journey underscores the college’s dedication to preparing students for success on a global stage, proving that with the right support, the sky is truly the limit.

If you’re an aspiring athlete with big dreams, Burnley College could be the perfect place to help you achieve them.
