Blackpool scoops four Seaside Awards

All of Blackpool’s beaches have been granted Seaside Awards, it was revealed today.

Blackpool beach and towerThe national awards, announced by Keep Britain Tidy, have rewarded Blackpool South, Blackpool Central, Blackpool North and Bispham for their high standards of beach management, as well as their nearby facilities and water quality.

The four beaches make up the town’s entire stock of bathing water beaches and Cllr Graham Cain has said that their award winning status will be a big boost for the town’s tourism draw.

Cllr Cain, Blackpool Council’s cabinet member for leisure and tourism, said: “This is fantastic news. Last year, we were able to secure a Seaside Award for Blackpool Central, and that was a great achievement, so for us to now have all of our beaches rewarded is absolutely brilliant.

“When people come to visit Blackpool, most will make a trip to the beach part of their holiday, so it’s really important that we can welcome them on to somewhere that is clean and well-looked after.”

Cllr Fred Jackson, cabinet member for urban regeneration, added: “We take pride in our beaches being kept clean, and a good place for the family to enjoy on a nice sunny day.

“Winning a Seaside Award for all of our beaches is a great achievement, and proves the Council’s commitment towards making sure that our beaches are clean and tidy for all to use.” Blackpool Council is also part of the LOVEmyBEACH campaign to improve bathing water quality across the North West.
