Baker Tilly’s Preston office rows its way to glory in Dragon Boat Race

A team from Baker Tilly’s new office in Preston is celebrating after winning the prestigious Dragon Boat Race.

The race, which took place in Preston Marina, comprised twenty boats made up from teams from across the region - including one from the Army.

Each boat consisted of 16 rowers as well as a ‘drummer’ beating time to keep the rowers in sync, and a professional helmsperson to guide the boat.

The ‘Baker Tilly Preston Paddlers’ were made up of Baker Tilly staff, as well as clients and contacts from local firms including Mellors Catering Services and Dunbia.

The team stormed to glory in soaring summer temperatures, racing in three heats of 250m in length in large canoe-like boats ornately carved with dragon's heads and tails.

Jon Pinder, Baker Tilly partner and team captain, said: "As many of us had little or no experience of rowing, then I think that we can agree that this was a real achievement. We had a great team of people and were so lucky to be competing in such glorious weather. Despite a few aches and pains today, we all recognise that our success on the day was down to teamwork, and I’m very grateful to all those that helped us row our way to victory. "Having only opened our office in Preston a fortnight ago, I think we can truly say that we’ve made quite an impact in the county recently!"
