Ambitious young accountants make their mark at awards
Finalist: Financial Services Award
Brown & Co is a small firm of chartered accountants with big ambitions. The accountancy industry has changed, and this Lancashire based business is leading that change.
Brown & Co runs a paperless business. They use technology to help clients scale their operations and increase their efficiency. This enables business owners to focus on the important stuff that really matters.
The Brown & Co team purposely works with a small number of clients, enabling them to build closer relationships, provide a better service and ensure it is delivered much more responsively. Clients include many multi-million pound turnover companies in industries from construction to domiciliary franchise care.
Chris Brown, managing director, said: “There are two things that we really love. Tax and technology. Yes, it’s true. There, we said it."
In just the last two years alone, Brown & Co has saved its clients more than £353,847 in tax, through a variety of tax claims such as R&D, capital allowances and other forms of tax planning. As a result, their business has grown by 156 per cent over the same period.
Chris brings his tax experience to the table after many years in the corporate tax world at one of the Big4. The team has adopted this Big4 mindset and is proactive when it comes to spotting opportunities to reduce tax. All delivered with a personal touch.
Chris said: “We embrace technology with open arms and are constantly investing in new tech. For example, we have migrated many large businesses onto cloud platforms and integrated apps tailored to their needs.
“We actively use over 18 apps at present (both internally and externally), covering services such as real time cash flow modelling, project reporting and virtual credit control.”
The Red Rose Awards judges were impressed by the company’s positive attitude, saying: “Brown & Co are enthusiastic, engaging, passionate and ambitious! We are keen to see its growth path come to fruition and are excited to see where the company will be in 12 months.”
Chris said: “We were the smallest business in our category by far, yet we were chosen as finalists. We are always striving to be better and provide an exceptional level of service to clients. Although we weren’t winners, the process confirmed that we are heading in the right direction and has pushed us to be better than we already are!”
He added: “We might be the new kids on the block, but we certainly know what we’re doing and we’re going places. Come and get on board with us and we’ll show you where we can take your business.”
