Amazing Accrington will host the 2021 Christmas Light Switch On in Accrington Town Centre on Thursday 25th November, proudly sponsored by amazing local businesses North Lancs Training Group (NLTG), Sundown Solutions and Studio Retail Ltd.

Working in conjunction with Accrington Town Hall, Accrington Market and Hyndburn Borough Council, plans are currently being formulated for a spectacular family-friendly start to Christmas, including a music stage, live acts, entertainment and fairground rides.

The official Light Switch On will be initiated by Accrington-born television star and actress Julie Hesmondhalgh (schedule permitting).

Amazing Accrington is also looking to engage with all local Primary Schools ahead of the return of the Christmas Light Switch On, as they look to build on the success of recent Accrington events such as the Accrington Stanley Football Club big shirt giveaway at the Wham Stadium and the Futures event in Accrington Town Hall.

The event will also provide the opportunity to celebrate local independent retailers, while charities have the chance to run a free stall outside Accrington Market Hall and should contact the Market Hall to make their application.

Murray Dawson, chair of Amazing Accrington, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be awarded the Christmas Light Switch On in Accrington. The last 18 months have been a challenge for everyone and this is a chance for everyone to enjoy a spectacular night of fun and entertainment with the whole community.”

Sara Britcliffe, MP for Hyndburn and Haslingden, added: “Christmas is a time to come together and we haven’t been able to experience that in the last year, so get yourself down for the big Light Switch On, bring your children and let’s make it an event to remember for Accrington.”

Cllr Miles Parkinson OBE, leader of Hyndburn Borough Council, commented: “Come down on the 25th, enjoy what is going to be presented to you and it’s all about the community coming back together after 18 months of difficulty.”

Gareth Lindsay, managing director at North Lancs Training Group (NLTG), said: “We are so proud to be involved in such a big community event. We’ve worked on some fantastic events with Amazing Accrington and we are delighted to keep supporting our local community.”

Heath Groves, CEO of Sundown Solutions, added: “Christmas is such a special time of the year and we are ecstatic to be involved in such a wonderful event for our local area which will bring families together and showcase how much we care about our community.”

Paul Kendrick, CEO of Studio Retail Ltd, commented: ““We at Studio love Christmas, it’s what our business is about, and given people couldn’t celebrate as normal last year with the pandemic, we believe it’s even more important that people spend time with friends and family in 2021.  We are therefore really pleased to support the Christmas Light Switch On as part of Amazing Accrington, and bring a smile and a bit of festive cheer to many of those from our local community”
