#AmazingAccrington has secured the contracts after tender to organise three spectacular events in Accrington in 2024, including the Accrington Food & Culture Festival, Soapbox Challenge and Christmas Light Switch On.

Over 40,000 people attended #AmazingAccrington’s events in Accrington town centre in 2023, with over 18,000 alone turning out for the extremely popular Soapbox Challenge, which was listed as one of the top 30 free Bank Holiday activities nationally and is up for the Marketing Lancashire ‘Large Event of the Year’ at the 2024 tourism awards.

Fans of the Soapbox will be delighted to see the return of the event on Saturday 24th August, with plans already underway for an even bigger and better Soapbox Challenge including a brand new two-level height ramp, a free pedal track for youngsters, vintage fairground rides and much more.

#AmazingAccrington will also be proudly organising the Accrington Food & Culture Festival on Saturday 1st June, which will feature a fantastic day of activities and fun for all the family including the very best Lancashire produce, a 50th anniversary celebration for Hyndburn Borough Council and a very special commemoration for the 80th anniversary of D-Day.

Following an incredible end to the year in Accrington with the 2023 Christmas Light Switch On, headlined by Junior Andre, #AmazingAccrington will once again organise the Light Switch On in 2024, taking place on Thursday 28th November. With the introduction of nostalgic stalls, carol singers and a special Santa experience, this will be another event to remember in Accrington.

All three of the events will be supported and are sponsored by Hyndburn Borough Council, who are celebrating 50 years since their formation in 2024.

Acting leader of Hyndburn Borough Council, Coun Peter Britcliffe, said: “We are delighted to be supporting the #AmazingAccrington team on what is going to be another amazing year of events here in Accrington.

“We were very impressed by the plans tendered to us by #AmazingAccrington and they have some really exciting ideas to take these flagship events to an even higher level, we can’t wait!”

Murray Dawson, chair of #AmazingAccrington, added: “We are extremely proud to be hosting these three key events in the town once again. It is testament to the work we have done over the years, that we have been chosen by Hyndburn Borough Council to organise them again and planning is already well underway.

“Not only will we be making some very exciting additions to all three events this year, but we will also be running initiatives to involve even more of our local businesses. We specifically run our events on Saturdays, where possible, to ensure our local businesses feel the maximum benefits of these events, with visitors encouraged to #ShopLocal throughout.”

#AmazingAccrington will also be organising several other events throughout 2024, including the Education Summit in May and the Futures Event in October, both of which will be held at Accrington Stanley’s world class hospitality venue.

Alongside that, #AmazingAccrington will be involved in the Easter Egg giveaway at Accrington Stanley in March, the Accrington Stanley big shirt giveaway in September and the #AmazingAccrington Halloween trail in October, as well as visiting primary and secondary schools alongside fellow Hyndburn business leaders.
