Accrington Stanley Women will return to the Wham Stadium on Sunday 11th February, as they take on Darwen FC Women in an exciting local derby, in the first round of the Alliance Design & Print (League) Cup.

It is the third time that Stanley Women have played at the Wham Stadium this season, having beaten Preston North End Women 3-1 in September and Fleetwood Town Wrens Ladies Reserves 3-0 in October.

Stanley Women are hoping to welcome a bumper crowd to the Wham Stadium and surpass the 1,139 attendance which attended the club’s historic match against the Isle of Man National Women’s Team in April 2023.

Free entry has been announced for the game, with tickets available to book in advance online: https://forms.office.com/e/yPc8Cfb9ci

The match, which kicks off at 2pm, is being sponsored by Hyndburn-based metal recycling company HML Recycling, who also recently donated a full set of training kit to the club, including training jackets for all the coaches and welfare staff.

Accrington Stanley’s world class hospitality venue will be open before, during and after the game, with food and drink available in Coley’s, as well as a viewing area to watch the match from indoors, while a raffle will also take place on the day.

There are also player sponsorship opportunities available for the day and for the remainder of the season. Any sponsorship enquiries can be made to: [email protected]

Accrington Stanley Women go into the cup clash as one of the key title challengers in the North West Womens Regional League – Division One North, having secured a 0-0 draw against fellow promotion hopefuls Preston North End Women on Sunday, which saw them climb up to second.

Kristian Perry’s side have won eight of their last 11 games and will be confident of pulling off an upset at the Wham Stadium.

Before the cup tie, Stanley Women face Workington Reds Ladies (21st January – Stanley Sports Hub) and Fleetwood Town Wrens Ladies Reserves (4th February – Blackpool Wren Rovers FC) in the league.

Opposition Darwen FC Women play their football in the North West Womens Regional League – Premier Division, one tier above Accrington Stanley Women, and sit in seventh place after 11 games, winning six and losing five so far this season.

Sami Smithson, Chair of Accrington Stanley Women, said: “We are delighted to be returning to the Wham Stadium, for what is going to be another exciting day for us as a club.

“We have thoroughly enjoyed our two games at the Wham already this season and we are looking forward to welcoming the community down to the game, for what is set to be an entertaining local derby.

“Darwen FC Women currently play in the league higher than us, however we will go into the match with confidence and hopefully a strong home crowd advantage.”

Accrington Stanley Women are sponsored by Sundown Solutions. They are actively looking for sponsorship partners and have over 200 players across all age groups. If you’re interested in sponsorship opportunities, please email [email protected]

Accrington Stanley Women against Darwen FC Women takes place on Sunday 11th February at the Wham Stadium, with kick off at 2pm.
