Accrington & Rossendale College, the Ofsted Outstanding Further, Higher and Apprenticeships Education provider, have been announced as one of the main sponsors for the 2022 Christmas Light Switch On in Accrington Town Centre.

Taking place on Thursday 24th November, Accrington is set to be transformed into an evening of sensational family-friendly fun including a mass school choir, music stage, live acts, character trails, meet and greet with characters from Jack and the Beanstalk, a firework display, fairground rides and a spectacular Christmas market inside and outside Accrington Market, headlined by Finch Bakery.

A fantastic addition to the attractions is Accrington & Rossendale College’s Virtual Reality cube, located in the Market Hall. The immersive technology is very impressive, and is used in a larger pod on the College campus for young people and adults. Because of the fully immersive 360° experience, the College can replicate locations in amazing detail – from a skyscraper in Dubai to a hospital ward, and many others in-between. Visitors can learn more about the fantastic opportunities available, with the college providing a wide array of evening adult courses from childcare and education, to ICT and digital.

Morag Davis, centre principal of Accrington and Rossendale College, said: “We are thrilled to be involved in such a wonderful community event in Accrington.

“Being located just half a mile from Accrington town centre, we are proud to be sponsoring such a key event in the town. Our VR Cube is really impressive and showcases the facilities we have for students on campus. We encourage everyone to come and say hello as Christmas gets underway in style in Amazing Accrington.”

Murray Dawson, chair of #AmazingAccrington, commented: “Accrington & Rossendale College is a fantastic facility which we are very lucky to have here in Accrington and we are delighted to see them playing such an important role in the Light Switch On.

“They play an integral role in our community and we would encourage everyone to visit their stall during the evening.”
