Accountants awarded Cyber Essentials

Brown & Co Chartered Accountants have just been awarded certification with Cyber Essentials.

Cyber Essentials is a government-backed industry supported scheme to help organisations protect themselves against common online threats.

Chris Brown, managing director commented: “We decided to apply for this to reassure our clients that we take their data seriously. Also, many of the requirements for Cyber Essentials are just good practice, so even if you don't apply for it, it's worth reviewing them to see how you can improve.”

Reviewing security procedures and policies is particularly crucial now that many employees are working from home and using their own personal internet routers and other IT equipment. This can often get overlooked.

Some basic simple steps to improve security include:

Change home router wi-fi and admin passwords from default to new strong passwords Enable two factor authentication (2FA) or single sign on (SSO) wherever possible for applications or apps Install software and operating systems updates or turn on automatic updates Turn off features you don’t need and uninstall software and apps not used
