A £9.3m transformation plan which will see St Annes Pool modernised and Kirkham Baths re-opened has edged closer.

After reviewing a range of options, Fylde Council's executive committee selected the proposal that enabled investment into both Kirkham and St Annes sites based on current financial positions.

It will now be sent for approval at the full council on January 27.

St Annes swimmers will benefit from a quality offering, enjoying a new 50-station gym, spa facilities, an exciting indoor splash pad, modern studios and a welcoming café, as seen in illustrated designs presented to the committee.

Meanwhile, Kirkham residents will once again have their beloved pool back, completely reconditioned with a new fitness suite and fully refurbished changing rooms.

Full details of the transformation will be announced following approval at Full Council, and the investment will be subject to comprehensive building surveys and risk assessments before implementation begins.

Councillor Karen Buckley, leader of Fylde Council, said: "This outcome reflects our determination to find a practical and sustainable answer to swimming provision in Fylde.

"We have worked through a complex set of challenges, assessed every viable option, and identified an approach that supports both sites.

"It represents a considered investment in facilities, providing stability for the future and ensures that our leisure facilities can continue to evolve in line with community needs.”

Coun Jayne Nixon, lead member for tourism, leisure and culture, added: "This investment follows year of work to ensure sustainable swimming provision in Fylde. The restoration of Kirkham Baths and modernisation of St Annes Pool will provide our communities with quality leisure facilities that support health and wellbeing for years to come."

The decision follows December’s announcement of Places Leisure as the preferred bidder for St Annes Pool. Full details will be announced following confirmation at Full Council next week.
