£2.5 million health club for Garstang

Garstang is set to get its first private health club complete with swimming pool, spa, Technogym, fitness studio and bistro.

The Acresfield Country Club and Spa is a traditionally designed two-storey building which will be finished in local stone hewn from Longridge Fell.

Designed by Craven Design in Padiham, Thornton-based building firm Clement Dickens and Son has been appointed as main contractor. The project is scheduled for completion by next spring with membership available from the start of the year.

spaThe £2.5million facility is part of the growing Acresfield Park Home Estate at Cabus, owned by Michael and Julie Ward. Although the investment is being made for the benefit of park residents, the health club and spa will also be open for members of the local community.

The state-of-the-art fitness centre will feature Technogym equipment, with integrated TV, internet and Skype, while dance and exercise classes, badminton and indoor bowls will be available in the multi-purpose hall.  Three therapy rooms will be available for spa treatments and an onsite hairdresser, a bistro and meeting rooms will cater for a wide variety of visitors.

“We have an aging population in this country but people retiring now are still young and fit enough to live a very active lifestyle and are looking for that combination of convenience and luxury. Many of our residents are looking to the future and saying ‘I want to live independently, I don’t want to compromise on quality’ and that’s something we feel very strongly about,” said Michael. “The country club is an extension of the ethos we bring to our homes, and I know it is something our residents will enjoy as part of a healthy retirement. But we’re not exclusive, our residents are part of a bigger community and we want local people to come and enjoy the facility too.
