Lancashire Business Day 2019
Wednesday, 27 November 2019
Crow Wood Hotel, Burnley
If you’re #Lancashireandproud, this event is not to be missed!
Lancashire Business View will once again bring the business community together to celebrate all things Lancashire on this year’s official #LancashireDay.
This unique event will take place from 7pm on 27 November at the brand new £12m Crow Wood Hotel in Burnley as the first business event of its kind at the venue which has just opened its doors in October.
Now in its third year, the event will see Lancashire’s leaders from across the county come together for a night of celebration and inspiration.
And of course, there’ll be first class local entertainment and food delivered by head chef of global award-winning Bertram’s Restaurant.
Keeper of the flame
Atkinsons first opened its doors in 1837. At the time it was one of seven tea and coffee merchants in Lancaster.
By 2005, it was the last one remaining, with a single outlet and just two part-time staff and a manager.
That’s when Ian Steel, who had previously been making television advertisements, stepped in.
Now more than 40 are employed in this growing venture across five locations in the city: The Coffee Shop and Roastery, Mackie Mayor, The Hall, The Music Room and, most recently, The Castle.
Very much a family affair – there are four Steels involved in the business – Ian will tell the story of a seismic career change, a passion for great products, the explosion in demand for a great brew… and what is next on the horizon.
We’ll also ask him how to make a decent cuppa!
Found and managing director
Gary founded Cherrytree Bakery in 1984, primarily making fruit slices and Chorley cakes for independent and major retailers such as Asda, Sainsbury’s and Morrisons. The business entered the burgeoning coffee shop market in 2005 and now supplies high street names such as Costa Coffee, Caffe Nero and Nandos with 48 million goodies going out each year.
Owner and founder
Crow Wood Hotel and Spa
Andrew retired at 40 after turning a loss making business into the most profitable privately owned company of its type in the UK. He eventually found a 100-acre farm in Burnley to realise his vision of creating a high-quality health and leisure club. Crow Wood Leisure opened in 2001 at a cost of £8 million. Since then, and with a further £27 million investment, Crow Wood Resort is now complete with the Spa and Hotel.
Sarah is a third generation member of this family business set-up more than 50 years ago. The business started out as a stall on Blackburn market and is now a national market leader in the soft furnishing industry, based in Preston.
