Businessman Saj Butt, commercial director at 3B Systems of Nelson, has accepted an invitation to spend Valentine’s Day with Her Majesty, the Queen.
He will attend a reception at Buckingham Palace, held in advance of the London Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in April which will recognise the contribution of those in the Commonwealth diaspora who have made a notable contribution, either to their own, or the wider community
Saj has been invited in recognition of his work with the Chamber of Commerce East Lancashire, of which he has been a director and board member for almost 20 years. Two of these were spent as its president and chairman.
He said: “I would like to thank all those associated with the Chamber of Commerce East Lancashire for their support over the years. A special thanks to our new incoming chief executive, Miranda Barker who I believe put my name forward.”
Saj spoke of his awareness of his responsibilities as a role model and ambassador for the Asian Community.
His career has been a pioneering one in many walks of life, being one of the first Asian Heritage to play semi-professional football, the first to be awarded the Winston Churchill Travelling fellowship (spending two months in the USA and Canada visiting various training and education establishments), as well as being the first president of the Chamber of Commerce.
Saj, who has lived in Lancashire for almost 50 years, is married with four children. He studied at Primet High School in Colne and then Nelson and Colne College. His association with the College stretches over three decades, initially as a student in the late seventies, then as the assistant manager of the then unique and award-winning Drop in Skills Centre (DISC) in the early eighties, and then as a lecturer in technology. More recently as a governor and board member.
He moved to Lancaster and Morecambe College (LMC), initially as a lecturer in IT and then as its staff development manager.
The past 19 years have been dedicated to the family Computer Business, 3B Systems Ltd., one of the premiere IT suppliers in Lancashire, which he helped launch back in 1985, and runs with his brothers, managing director Ijaz and sales director Noushad.
He is a very active member of the Community, including a seat on the Pendle Vision board, a founding member of the Roof of the World Charity, and the soon-to-be-launched weekly radio programme, Saj’s World on Awaz Radio 103.1FM
