November 27 promises a day of celebration as Lancashire Business View magazine connects the business community once again to showcase their roots and show the world – this is how we do business in Lancashire!

The first ever Lancashire Business Day took place in 2017 and saw organisations from every corner of the county come together to network, share their stories and enjoy all that is Lancashire with specially themed food and entertainment.

Now we’re inviting businesses of all sizes and all sectors to join in the marketing, networking, debating and fun around #LancashireDay with our celebratory evening taking place at Northcote at the Rovers, with first class entertainment including guest speakers and business panel discussion plus a menu created by Michelin starred chef Lisa Goodwin-Allen.

This year’s event will take as its theme: “If you can buy it in Lancashire, buy it in Lancashire” – our drive to get the county’s businesses and public sector organisations to buy local.


We'll get down to business on Lancashire Business Day with our business panel featuring the following Lancashire leaders. We'll discuss the challenges and opportunities facing business in the county and what the future holds.

Guy Topping, managing director, Barton Grange

Guy starting working for the family firm Barton Grange at the tender age of four and has sat on the company’s board for the last two decades, during which time Barton Grange has grown to include a leisure development featuring luxury cinema screens, restaurant, bar, curling rink and other sporting activities.

He is also the chairman of a project which aims to bring a Youth Zone to Preston.


Antony Chesworth, founder and CEO of EKM

Born in Burnley, Antony Chesworth is an award-winning entrepreneur, and the CEO and founder of the UK’s largest ecommerce provider -

At the age of 22 Antony built his own ecommerce platform to allow anyone to follow their passion to create their own successful online shop. From being jobless with thousands of pounds in credit card debt, Antony built a company that has now helped over 45,000 businesses sell online, and processes more than half a billion pounds in transactions every year.

Preston-based EKM now employs over 85 team members that also share Antony’s vision to allow people to spend life doing something they love.


Sara Prowse, CEO of Hotter Shoes

Sara Prowse is CEO of Skelmersdale based £100-million turnover shoe manufacturers Hotter Shoes. Sara has a long history of working in retail and has stints at River Island, Debenhams and Shop Direct on her impressive CV.

Sara, former managing director at multi-channel fashion retailer Lands’ End,  is highly experienced in digital, direct marketing, merchandising, transformational change, mergers and acquisitions and strategy. Since taking the lead at Hotter shoes back in 2016, Sara is leading the business through a three year plan set to see the business double in size.

Sara is a bold leader, who believes in challenge and has the ability in inspire and energise colleagues to achieve by using a results mentality to drive business forward and has a proven track record of delivering bottom line results.

Hotter Shoes began life as a family-owned slipper maker back in 1959 and today has a workforce in excess of 1,300. The business has big plans for growth both in the UK and overseas, with markets in the US, Middle East, Chine and Europe.


Glyn Jones, development director at BAE Systems

Glyn has almost 30 years’ experience in the aerospace industry and has worked on many of the leading programmes operated by BAE Systems, Lancashire's largest employer.

In 2014, he took up the post of development director for its role in the F-35 Lightning II programme, an aircraft operated by air forces across the globe including the Royal Air Force. He is responsible for its current and future development work which sees engineers from the company introduce new technology and capability to the aircraft.

In Lancashire, more than 2,500 people are employed in the design, production and support of the F-35 from BAE Systems' site at Samlesbury.

Andy Bounds, enterprise editor, Financial Times

Andy Bounds has been North of England correspondent for the Financial Times since 2008 and was additionally appointed Enterprise Editor in 2011. He covers the ‘Northern Powerhouse’ and the changing face of the northern and national economy, politics and society with special focus on small and start-up businesses and entrepreneurs.

He was previously a correspondent in Brussels for four years covering trade, environment, agriculture, transport consumer and health policies and the European Parliament.

As guest speaker at Lancashire Business Day, Andy will draw on his experiences to provide insight on the opportunities and challenges facing Lancashire and its business community.

Simon Entwistle, Top Hat Tours

Simon, recipient of the Lancashire Tourism Superstar Award in 2012, and shortlisted for 2018, is a historian, experienced guide and consummate storyteller based in Lancashire running various tours across the county’s towns and cities. Simon will join us on Lancashire Day to give the official proclamation at the event which is read by town criers across the county each Lancashire Day!
