Eco-I 2019: Innovation for Clean and Sustainable Growth

Conference hosted by The Centre for Global Eco-Innovation

Eco-I 2019 brings together academia, industry, and policy to share how recent research advances are driving eco-innovation across six key global challenges: energy, waste, food water, resource efficiency, and natural capital.

The conference aims to highlight various facets of innovation for clean and sustainable growth, showcasing a challenge-led, solution-driven approach and the importance of collaboration. This conference will be low-carbon, completely free of single use plastics and all conference information will be available digitally. To help us achieve this and for your convenience, we encourage you to bring reusable water bottles and mugs.

Challenge led and solution driven
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has set out the need to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees celsius and states that "barriers to Green House Gas (GHG) mitigation and opportunities for overcoming them arise throughout the innovation system". By responding to challenges such as climate change and GHG mitigation, eco-innovation is an avenue for developing solutions that are effective and have impact.

The Science of Innovation
Eco-Innovation is the development of new products, processes, and services which delivers positive environmental impact. It is a key mechanism for delivering changes required to respond to climate change and will support the global need to live within the limits of the planet. It has the power to decouple global economic growth from resource use and is fully consistent with delivring the UK Clean Growth Strategy. It will be an integral part of the successful transformation towards a low carbon economy, which could grow 4 times faster than the economy as a whole for the next 15 years.

The Art of Collaboration
To deliver sustainable, equitable development we must work across the boundaries of a variety of commercial sectors and academic disciplines focusing on shared global environmental challenges. Eco-I 2019 will facilitate this by bringing together representatives from academia, industry, and policy who all share a common goal towards a clean and sustainable future, and by providing various networking opportunities. Eco-I 2019 is your opportunity to discover what is going on in the world of eco-innovation, with focus on the six key global challenges.
