James’ Places enjoys festive sales boost

Bowland Food Hall festive sales

The James’ Places Group has recorded its best ever festive sales figures, including 17,000 pints of beer and 3,000 bottles of fizz through its pubs and restaurants.

The Lancashire-based organisation – which owns Holmes Mill, Mitton Hall and a number of pubs and inns throughout the county – reported a record-breaking climax to 2017 as shoppers and party-goers opted to shop locally.

This trend included Bowland Food Hall, where customers reduced their food miles by buying local produce.

Big sellers across the group included more than 15,000 gin and tonics, which was double last year’s figures, as well as 2,000 pork pies and 600kg of cheese.

Andrew Bailey, operations manager, said: “A bit of a knees-up with friends and a proper festive feast are central to a traditional Lancastrian Christmas and we’re very pleased to see that our customers share that view.

“Footfall was up significantly on last Christmas and many of our New Year’s Eve parties were sell-outs.”

He added: “We’re also delighted to report that Bowland Food Hall’s ‘shop local’ message really seemed to strike a chord. We encouraged customers to pop in and chat with our staff and sample our local produce before placing their Christmas orders. In the busy final week of the run-up to Christmas, local meats, pastries and especially cheeses were flying off the shelves.”
