The onshore oil and gas industry has been given a boost as the government announced £5.6m in funding to support the creation of the National College for Oil and Gas (NCOOG) headquartered at Blackpool and the Fylde College.
The College, which is set to fully open its doors in September 2017, will deliver the specialist skills the industry needs and encourage more students to consider working in the onshore oil and gas industry so the UK can maximise value from its onshore hydrocarbon reserves.
"We have made it a priority to work with employers to deliver high-quality, technical education and clear routes to employment that deliver economic growth and create opportunities for our young people, and enable our existing workforce to upskill and retrain for the jobs of the future.
Over 20 organisations including onshore oil and gas operators, large oilfield services companies, specialist small businesses, regulators and academic institutions have been involved in supporting the establishment of the NCOOG.
