A major refurbishment of Douglas Marine was smooth sailing all the way with assistance from the West Lancashire Inspire team.
The boat yard, which was established over 100 years ago, is located on the western side of the River Douglas near to Hesketh Bank. The business constructs and repairs boats and provides mooring facilities for up to 150 vessels.
Douglas Marine was purchased by Ray and Christine Jackson in 2000. Since then, they have invested to upgrade the boat building and repair facilities. Before the grant assist-ance, boats were constructed and repaired in a dilapidated shed at the end of the slipway. With financial assist-ance from West Lancashire Inspire, the company replaced the old shed and outbuildings with a purpose-built portal frame unit.
"The assistance from the Inspire team has enabled us to raise our game in terms of productivity and customer service,” said Ray Jackson. “The grant process is streamlined and simple and the advice given was crucial to the success of this development project."
